Who Am I?

A thought-provoking title, to be sure, but if you’ve come here seeking deep, existential epiphanies to my inner conflicts and a detailed description of my unique mission in this world, prepare to be disappointed—and check out my journal instead J.  What follows is relatively superficial, though interesting just the same, if I may say so myself.

I never intended to be a writer. I’m a creative, free-flowing, people person, born with a pen in my mouth but I floundered in exploring several interesting careers before turning to writing as a profession.

Ask my third-grade teacher and she’ll verify that I’d originally planned to become a bio-medical researcher and find a cure for cancer. That hasn’t happened yet, but you never know. After graduating from Yavne Seminary in Cleveland, Ohio and earning a Bachelors degree in Humanities, my occupational forays have taken me to teaching, computers, designing and building websites, and even (gulp!) selling Avon.

Today, I’m a freelance writer, and I love my job. I enjoy writing in all genres, voices, and subjects and have done everything from fiction to true journalism to historical pieces, point-of-view, spirituality, and inspiration. I like to use humor as a tool in my writing and I try to aim for being thought-provoking without being provoking. It excites me to be able to bring interest, information, and insight to a broad audience in many countries. As I write, I imagine my target reader and try to tailor the piece to meet my imagined reader’s satisfaction. I am a hopeless critic of others and hold myself to the same standards. Feel free to criticize me—people do it all the time!

I’m 30 years old, born in Toronto, Canada, and I received a Bais Yaakov education. My wonderful husband, Joel, works as a school psychologist, and Hashem has blessed us with four gorgeous kids: Bracha Raiza, Dovid Yosef, Akiva Nachman, and Yisrael Chanina, whom we love very much. Our family made aliyah from Cleveland, OH to Ramat Beit Shemesh, Israel two years ago, and we feel extremely privileged to build our life here.

In addition to writing, I’ve also trained to be a life coach, though I’ve been too busy to formally pursue coaching. Friends and family say they benefit from my training nonetheless! I’m also proud to work part-time as a patent writer for iSkoot, a sensational, employee-friendly computer company right here in Beit Shemesh.

I am blessed with a colorful and vibrant bouquet of great friends and a very special, wonderful extended family. I have a passion for learning new things, meeting new people, and to introspect. I’m a nature lover, bird-watcher, pianist, inventor, and compulsive reader. And my kids say I shmooze too much.
